17:10 Market

This summer we had the opportunity to be a part of a fun new event in our area called the 17:10 Market. This market is all about showcasing Ohio makers and growers and we were so excited to hear that something like this was happening near us! Little did we know that we would have the chance to participate!

As an interior design firm it can be difficult to find ways to allow people to experience and enjoy the end product of what we do. Although interior design is a ‘creative business’ it’s not exactly something that can easily be displayed or sold in a booth. Many of our clients over the years have been gracious enough to allow us to bring new clients to see our past work – namely, their homes and businesses but at the 17:10 Market we had a new opportunity…

When our friends at JDM Structures agreed to partner with us to create a “she shed” to display at the market we got to work right away as the market date was quickly approaching.

With this project our goal was to give people a taste of what they can expect when they work with S. Flynn – a clean, cozy and comfortable space that’s both functional and beautiful.

On the exterior of the shed we chose some moody colors that would blend into the landscape – dark green on the window frames, doors and pergola and a natural brown for the siding. We added windows to bring in natural light and accented with modern concrete planters.

On the interior of the shed we painted the walls and ceiling a warm white to make the space feel spacious and bright. We used a sheet vinyl with a tile look for an unexpected and budget- friendly flooring and softened the space with a hide rug. We also added soft textures with the curtains, pillows and couch. This made the space feel cozy and inviting. We accented with a custom bookshelf, metal occasional tables and mid-century leather chairs. We added a mirror to make the most of the natural light and finished the look by adding an olive tree and styled shelves to give it a ‘lived-in’ feel.

I had mentioned on Instagram there was a self-inflicted mistake 🙂 Did you notice the little bit of wallpaper behind the shelves? Our intent was for the entire wall to be wallpaper. It would have added a little extra pattern, play, and visual interest to the space. Unfortunately, I waited until the last minute to order the wallpaper and it didn’t come in on time. So we just rolled with it 🙂

The event was so much fun! We really could not have asked for better weather and there were so many great vendors. We hope if you had a chance to visit the 17:10 Market that you enjoyed it! We know we did!.
