Get to know Kyle and Sadie

Who’s ready for a little Q & A session?! We sat Kyle and Sadie down and threw some questions at them to give you guys a better glimpse into who they are. We all know that they’re an amazing design team, but they’re pretty cool people too. If you follow us on Instagram and have seen any of our stories, you know that they love to keep work fun and that they love to laugh. These two manage to run a successful, faith-based business, raise a family, and entertain friends, all while looking adorable.

Tell us how you met.

Sadie: We are old family friends.

Kyle: We were family friends that started dating the summer that Sadie graduated high school.

What is the best/worst part of being a husband/wife team?

S: The best part is that Kyle is my best friend. There is nothing more fulfilling to us than building and making things together. This is why we love our day job and why we love building our business. The worst part is that it can be hard to shut off and separate work from family.

K: Yes, the worst part is that work can follow us home. The best part is having her on my side. She will never go down without a fight.

What is your spouse’s best attribute(s) in life and within the company?

S: In life and in business, Kyle is so patient and level headed – both excellent qualities to have as a husband, contractor and father. Maybe I am a tad jealous because, of the two of us, my fuse is a little shorter.

K: She is very confident and determined.

How do you stay connected while growing a booming business together?

S:  We try our best, but things do still fall through the cracks, so I don’t want to sound like we have it together. We try to put our kids to bed at a time that gives us a chance for some downtime and uninterrupted conversation. Kyle and I are the ones who do initial site visits and we drive quite a bit to surrounding areas for jobs, so we try to make the most of our long drives together – usually with some A.M. radio playing.

K: I think we make it a point to drink coffee in the morning together to catch up or spend time after dinner connecting and conversing.

Tell us about your family.

S: We have two kids, Annie who is four and Abe, two. It’s fun to see what they like as they grow and start to plan activities that we can all do together.

What is your ideal date night?

S: Eating yummy food that neither one of us has to make. We are a little adventurous. Before kids, we had horses and we used to go trail riding. We like four-wheeler and motorcycle rides too, so it seems that we enjoy something with a little speed and adrenaline. We also like getting together with our friends, whether it is at our house or someone else’s.

K: I’d say taking my motorcycle to eat steak or BBQ.

What does your spouse do to make you laugh?

S: Kyle is so witty and has no shame, but he is laid back. His humor is low key and happens without him trying. So often he makes me laugh, caught off guard, in the small moments.

K: Well…she thinks she is funnier than she really is. Most of my laughs are courtesy.

What is your favorite meal to cook and/or eat together?

S: Protein. Kyle has recently been coating mushrooms in an egg wash and bread crumbs and then air frying them. Very good!

What areas of your life does your spouse fill in the gap for you?

S: I am so thankful for Kyle. He really does make me a better person. I am not quick to extend grace and my initial response is often to fight. Kyle is currently singing, “Won’t Back Down” by Tom Petty. That is very accurate.

What does S. Flynn mean to you personally and what do you envision for the future?

S: S. Flynn is so much more than a design firm to us. We are driven to become better and better until we are the best. But, being the best for the sake of just that, is done in vain. This is a snippet of our in-house mission statement that really speaks to the heart of who we are and what we want S. Flynn to represent to the clients and subcontractors who we work with daily:

“We have been blessed with a specific skill set and we need to use our gifts and talents for good. We are going to do that by serving. Our goal needs to be that we showed Christ to a lost world, encouraged those that needed it, and that Christ was clearly evident in how we conducted business and served our clients.”

That is how we want to approach each project. Within our company, we want our employees to feel loved and pushed to do their best. We don’t want to just be a place of work. Our business is our mission field and we are intentional about that with our clients, subcontractors, and employees.

K: Amen to all of the above. We feel very blessed to have the opportunity to own and grow our small business together. We are excited about our place in the construction industry and look forward to growing our Design + Build Firm.

Aren’t they great? At S. Flynn, we love getting glimpses into the personal lives of some of our favorite designers and we hope you enjoyed getting to know Kyle and Sadie a little better. Thanks for reading!
